The "Remarkable Vets" television series
is about to enter its second season on TV2, screening at 7pm on
Sunday nights, beginning sometime in May. Produced by Great
Southern Television, the show follows Geoff Woodhouse on his
daily rounds as a mixed practice vet in the beautiful Wakatipu
basin.
How did the series come to be?
The television show "Remarkable Vets", came into being
when Geoff attended to the dog of Great
Southern Television executive producer, Phil Smith, shortly
after the Arrowtown practice first opened its doors. An Arrowtown
local, Phil was on the hunt for a new show to follow on from his
acclaimed "Lion Man" series. Phil saw the potential
of an observational documentary series following the trials and
tribulations of a vet and his family starting a mixed animal veterinary
practice in picturesque Arrowtown. Pilot material was filmed and
TVNZ soon gave the green light to begin filming. The first series
screened in May 2005 over 10 weeks and regularly won the coveted
7pm Sunday time slot. Geoff Woodhouse, Remarkable Vets and Diesel
the cat soon became household names, with many New Zealanders
visiting the practice when holidaying in the Wakatipu.
Nat Geo Wild
Remarkable Vets has gone global!!!
The series has been sold to National Geographic who have recently
launched a new channel in the Northern Hemisphere called 'Nat
Geo Wild'.
This was a major coup for Great Southern TV, the company that
made the show, and a reflection on the quality and appeal of the
staff at Remarkable Vets.
We look forward to receiving feedback from around the world about
our clinic and our area of New Zealand that we love so much.
Diesel is pretty excited too, hoping that there may be a few more
visitors to sign his book and quietly wondering if Hollywood may
tune in.
(We haven't had the heart to tell him that it's not showing in
North America - yet!)
